New Applicants will enter their education and training information through the online registration system, and the registrar will contact them if additional steps are required. You may be required to share your course curriculum.
CCTPEI Registration Exam
All New Applicants will be required to complete a competency exam. The current exam required by the Council is the CCTPEI Registration Exam provided by COMPASS Centre for Examination Development. This same exam is used across Canada to assess the core competencies of counselling therapists (e.g. Alberta). Please note, this competency exam is offered by a third party and all exam fees are payable to the provider.
The CCTPEI Registration Exam is available to write twice per year, in the fall and spring.
Jurisprudence Exam
The jurisprudence exam is designed to assess a counselling therapist's knowledge and understanding of the specific rules and regulations in Prince Edward Island.
All CCTPEI registrants, except those with limited-time special registration, must pass the jurisprudence exam by their first registration renewal. The exam is available through the HMS online registration system to all CCTPEI members for a fee.
The content of the jurisprudence exam is pulled from the Regulated Health Professions Act, Counselling Therapists Regulations, Code of Ethics, and Standards of Practice.
